Honiton couple celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary.

A Honiton couple celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary say the key to a successful marriage is ‘a bit of give and take’.

David and June Perryman (née Bellworthy) married on April 19, 1954, on Primrose Day at Ottery St Mary Church.

“The church was decorated with primroses all the way through,” says June.

After the wedding ceremony David and June enjoyed a reception at the Kings Arms before setting off for their honeymoon in Brighton.

The couple hit it off after meeting at a dance at Talaton Village Hall.

Reflecting on the anniversary, June says: “It is about give and take. Nearly everyone says you have got to give a bit and take a bit.”

“We have been very lucky,” she added

June and David have four children, Andrea, Paul, Sarajane and Alison, and seven grandchildren.

June, who was born in Ottery St Mary, was a dinner lady at Mill Water School for 22 years and before that worked at Cole’s Drapers in Broad Street, and had a part-time job at Dimonds in Honiton.

David had his own building business with his brother Derek - Perryman Brothers - for more than 30 years until they both retired. He was also station officer at Honiton Fire Station.

They marked their 60th anniversary with their family – enjoying a delicious lunch at the Tumbling Weir Hotel in Ottery St Mary.
