Ford Focus involved in crash with lorry. Police issue appeal for witnesses to come forward.

A 59-year-old man died following a collision on the A30 near Honiton on Christmas Eve, police have confirmed.

The dead man has not been named.

Officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

The road was closed for 10 hours following the crash, which happened at 11.35am.

A silver Ford Focus, travelling towards Honition, was in collision with a lorry, which was heading towards Somerset, at Rawridge Hill.

The driver of the Focus, who was from London but living with family in the local area, sustained serious injuries and died at the scene.

The driver of the lorry, a 50-year-old man from Launceston, suffered minor injuries.

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said in a statement: “The road was closed for 10 hours for police to investigate the scene and to enable the removal of the HGV, which had left the road and ended up in a steeply-sloped wooded area.

“Officers from the Exeter Serious Collisions Investigation Unit have launched an investigation into the collision and are appealing for witnesses to contact them.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact police by telephoning 101, quoting log number 247 of 24/12/12.”
