Feniton residents band together to battle floods

Community spirit was alive and well in Feniton as residents banded together to battle the latest deluge of rain that caused flooding in the village.

Residents told the Midweek Herald that gardens in the village were under water last week. However, no houses were flooded.

Volunteer flood wardens were out in force sweeping drains in the early mornings to stop homes from being swamped. Areas of Station Road, Salisbury Close and Salisbury Avenue were flooded – some roads had to be closed off. Pattesons Cross was also said to have been cut off.

Feniton and Buckerell East Devon district councillor and local resident Susie Bond has praised the community spirit of residents and said: “Everyone did band together – it was amazing. People were fantastic. They came out of their houses with trays of tea.”

The Spar shop also donated biscuits as residents battled with the water.
