With the proposal for 2018 being that Festive Friday will unite with ‘Light Up Axminster’, this year’s event could have been the last in its present form.

Organised by Axminster Rotary club for the last decade, this year’s event, on Friday, December 8, saw the Mayor of Axminster, Cllr Jeremy Walden in company with the Town Crier, Nick Goodwin, opening the activities for the evening with a short address.

As on all the other occasions, the event was held on a fine but cold evening with a good crowd enjoying the overall spectacle whilst participating in a glass or two of mulled wine, whilst the children enjoyed the visit of Father Christmas in his sleigh and enthusiastically crowded around the performances of Punch and Judy.

The Karizma Majorettes demonstrated their excellent skills and many of the local schools and organisations provided a good range of items on their stalls with a seasonal influence to tempt browsers.

To add to the Christmas Spirit, the evening was interspersed with Carol singing led by Axminster Musical Theatre supported by the Lyme Regis Town Band, which provided an excellent backdrop to the festive evening.
