Drivers urged to pay attention to road closure signs and not put their lives at risk by driving through floodwater.
Motorists are being advised not to attempt to drive through floodwater following warnings of heavy rainfall today (Monday).
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service says fire crews had to rescue 12 people in five separate incidents on Friday night after motorists had driven into floodwater and become stuck.
Group Manager John Gilhooly said: “It is impossible for motorists to tell how deep water is or the condition of the ground beneath. There is a significant risk to life if motorists become stranded.
“If you do see floodwater on the road, do not attempt to drive through it but try to find an alternative route. And if a road has been closed, it is for the safety of the public and closure signs should be respected.”
