Tributes have been paid to a former Axminster woman who was found dead after a major police hunt.

The body of Sara Taylor, who was 76, was discovered two days after she went missing from her home in Beaminster.

Police were alerted about her disappearance by her husband, Peter, a former Lyme Regis restaurateur.

The search ended after she was found dead by a member of the public on farmland, at Mapperton.

Paying tribute to the public for its help in the hunt Police Insp Mike Darby said: “I was very saddened to hear of Mrs Taylor’s death.

“My officers and staff alongside search-trained colleagues, the police helicopter, dog units and numerous members of the community all worked long and hard looking for Sara and praying she would be found safe and well.

Mrs Taylor, previously Robertson, moved to this area from Swanage where she was employed in the doctors’ surgery.

She joined the medical centre at Lyme Regis and then transferred to Axminster Medical Practice, where she worked for several years, before marrying and eventually moving to Beaminster with her husband.

Lynette Fisher, from Le Vieux Four bakery, in Beaminster, said Mrs Taylor was a really lovely person.

“She cared for her husband who is quite a bit older than her, in his 90s, which is probably why he didn’t realise she was getting more and more confused daily, she must have been.

“She seemed to live for her dogs. She was always out walking with them but I believe the dogs were at home this time.

“She was just a genuine person.”
