A pair of free-roaming peacocks are causing a flap in Honiton - with efforts being carried out to hunt down their owner.

The birds have been the subject of disbelieving posts on Facebook by surprised residents who have come across the birds.

As of the time of this article being published, the birds, a peacock and peahen, were ‘sunning themselves’ in the corner of Bests of Honiton’s customer car park.

Ashley Laker, the store’s assistant manager, said: “They have been there since 9am - it is really not a good place for them to be.

“They are sunning themselves in the corner and are wandering around.

“We have left a message with the police, and was told the call handler was going to speak to her superior.”

The birds were also previously sighted at premises of Ash and Lacy Construction, in Gloucester Close, on May 11.
