The 47-year-old is in the process of writing Honiton Through Time - part of a series by Stroud based history publisher Amberley Publishing.

A Honiton author is on the hunt for old photos of the town to feature in a new book he is writing.

Gary Holpin, 47, of Monkton Road, is in the process of writing Honiton Through Time - part of a series by Stroud based history publisher Amberley Publishing.

To complete his book, he is compiling a list of 90 photos - and is calling on Honiton residents to help him with his venture.

Speaking to the Herald, Gary, who works at Exeter Met Office, said: “The older photos I get, the better. Probably anything dating pre-1960s would be of interest to look at.

“I am looking for photos of any places or buildings in Honiton.

“They need to be outdoor scenes - it would be great to have people in them and not just buildings, but outdoors rather than indoors.”

Gary decided to take up the challenge after he was approached by Amberley Publishing.

Despite having lived in Honiton for the last 13 years, he realised he knew very little about the town.

“I want to do some background reading about Honiton and then I can get a bit of an idea of what I want to show in the book,” he said.

“I have nine months to complete the book, as the idea is to get it published and on the shelves before this Christmas.”

Anyone who has any old photos of Honiton and is interested in showing them to Gary can send them to him via gholpin@hotmail.com
