AN East Devon runner will raise money for dementia centres at Axminster and Ottery when he takes part in The Grizzly, the notorious 20-mile race along the Jurassic coastline.

Chris Driver will battle muddy, boggy, sandy, stony and hilly conditions to raise funds for the two units, on Sunday, March 10.

The 27-year-old will be running in honour of his grandparents, Betty and the late Ron Russell, who have both had dementia.

Chris’ aunt Bev Giles is a clinical support worker at the Ottery centre.

He said: “The centres are close to my heart. I know they provide an excellent service and I’d really like to support them.”

Chris is a member of Axe Valley Runners and is also a keen footballer.

He works in Exeter for drinks distributor Tradeteam, who have agreed to match the figure he raises.

The gruelling Grizzly takes runners through Seaton, Beer and Branscombe, across land and beaches.

Chris’ cousin Nicola Russell is also taking part and will raise money for The Donkey Sanctuary at Sidmouth, where she works.
