Hospiscare is still looking to raise £250,000 to complete and run its new state-of-the-art day hospice, which is to be built in Honiton. Find out how you can help.
Hospiscare is looking for people across East Devon to get involved and support the East Devon Day Hospice Appeal.
The local charity still needs to raise £250k to complete and run the new East Devon Day Hospice, which is set to open this summer.
There are many ways to get involved from baking cakes, opening your garden or throwing yourself out of an airplane. Hospiscare is asking people to utilise their talents and hobbies to help raise money.
Hospiscare appeal fundraiser Sarah Smith said: “Whatever you enjoy doing, why not do it for Hospiscare and help make a difference to the people of East Devon?
“Whether you can volunteer some of your time, organise an event, or buy a moment of care it will all help to bring care closer to home for thousands of people in East Devon.”
The local charity, that provides high-quality care and support to people with life-limiting illnesses and their families, is also calling thrillseekers to join them at Dunkeswell Airfield in June to raise money for the appeal and take part in a world record attempt.
Sarah added: “We are looking for anyone who would be interested in completing a skydive to sign up, get sponsored and join us on June 21 to take part in the world record attempt.”
The adrenaline-fuelled challenge is a tandem skydive from 15,000ft and part of Skydive UK Limited’s record-breaking attempt to have 260 people jump from the sky in a 24 hour period.
Hospiscare supporter Ian Smith raised more than £700 for the charity after completing the skydive last year and said that his fear soon turned to thrill as he jumped from 15,000ft.
The 43-year-old said: “Being part of the Hospiscare skydive was such a thrill. I had always wanted to try skydiving, so when I saw that I could raise money for my local hospice while taking part I thought ‘go for it’.
“Hospiscare is such an important charity to so many people - the care they gave my father-in-law was beyond words - so getting to fulfil one of my ambitions while raising money just seemed like too good an opportunity to miss.”
