Despite concerns over increased regulations, Seaton Carnival committee is going ahead with its two seafront street markets this year.

They will take place on Bank Holiday Mondays, May 28 and August 27.

Previously the town’s Lions Club and Royal British Legion branch scrapped plans for their street markets, blaming increased Red Tape introduced by East Devon District Council.

But EDDC says there is little extra form filling involved and it is simply working to ensure public safety..

Newly appointed Seaton Mayor Peter Burrows said he had been approached by many people to do something and the carnival committee came up trumps, putting in a successful application for its markets.

He added: “We very much encourage the Lions and British Legion to be a part of it if they so wish.

“We will be working closely with Seaton Town Council to ensure the street markets are as successful as the Artisan markets.” To take part in the carnival markets contact June Millman, 5 Axe View Road, Seaton, EX12 2JS 01297 599625 : june.m@talktalk.net
