Axminster gardeners help to launch big week for Marie Curie Cancer Care

Members of Axminster Horticultural Society appropriately launched this year’s daffodil appeal for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

They dressed in yellow at their meeting last week to promote the charity, which supports people with terminal illness.

All funds raised during the appeal in March will help Marie Curie nurses to provide more free care for local sufferers in their own homes.

Sandy Sinclair, a Marie Curie Axminster care volunteer, said: “We need everyone in Axminster to donate and wear one of our daffodil pins during March.

“Every penny they give is absolutely vital in helping us support people with terminal illness in their area and provide more of the free hands-on care and emotional support Marie Curie Cancer Care is renowned for.”

Daffodil pins can be collected from local stores, volunteer collectors and the charity’s shops through next month.

There are also lots of fund raising events to get involved in, including collections in Axminster town centre on Thursday, March 7, and at the town’s Tesco supermarket on Wednesday and Thursday, March 13 and 14.

Added Mr Sinclair: “Wear something yellow to work day also launches on Friday, March 1.

“Workplaces across East Devon can add a splash of colour to the day and raise money for Marie Curie at the same time.”
