Growing support for Jamie

Honiton comes out in support after plea for specialist hoist.
Community groups, individuals and even a bank have rallied to support a budding young paralympian.
The Midweek Herald and Honiton Leisure Centre have been inundated with offers of support for Jamie Dyer following his mum’s heartfelt plea for a new hoist at the swimming pool.
The nine-year-old’s mum, June, feared Jamie would not be able to access the pool unless a specialist ceiling track hoist was installed.
A number of businesses and local organisations have contacted the Midweek Herald offering help with funding and fund-raising towards the hoist, as well as a changing bench in the disabled changing room.
One of Jamie’s school friends has been inspired to hold a raffle to help with fund-raising.
“So far, the response has been very positive.
“It is amazing – everybody has been so good,” says June.
“It is something that is going to be there for the future – not just for children to use, but adults too.”
Leisure East Devon, which runs the swimming pool, told the Midweek Herald that it is looking into the offers of help.
It currently has £2,000 available but is likely to need a further £2,000 to cover the remaining costs.
