Week is hailed a big success despite a shortage of collectors this year

Seaton Carnival week raised £2,000 despite a shortage of collectors.

Amongst the many attractions was the seafront street market which featured more than 60 stalls – a good number say organisers despite the tougher new health and safety regulations now in force for such events.

The murder mystery evening and children’s disco were also well supported.

But Mayor Peter Burrows stressed that carnivals can only survive with the support of other groups and Seaton was lucky to have Herberts Funfair.

“With Stephen Herbert and Gemma Dare we have been fortunate in their support for the carnival over many years and are extremely grateful for their contribution to keep the tradition alive,” he said.

“We will be holding a winter carnival procession on December 1 when Seaton has its late-night shopping and Christmas tree switch on. We hope this will be well supported by the local community.”

Mr Burrows added that the carnival committee would be looking to resolve the shortage of collectors before next year’s event.
