Herald reporter Katy Griffin will be taking part in a tandem skydive to boost funds for the East Devon Day Hospice Appeal.

Midweek Herald reporter Katy Griffin will be taking on her most high-flying challenge to date – jumping out of a plane at 15,000 feet for East Devon’s new day hospice.

She will be doing a tandem skydive at Dunkeswell Airfield on Sunday, September 21.

“The response from the community to the East Devon Day Hospice Appeal has been amazing and I thought it was about time that I did my bit to help with fundraising efforts,” says Katy. “The new day hospice will provide a valuable resource for the communities of East Devon and vital support not only for patients but also their families.”

She added: “This will be the first skydive I’ve ever done and I’m looking forward to the challenge. Although, I must admit I do feel a bit apprehensive about having to jump out of a plane and brave the 15,000 feet drop.”

A team from Axminster Tools and Machinery has also signed up to do a jump to support the East Devon Day Hospice Appeal, which has gathered tremendous support from individuals and businesses.

More than £50,000 has been raised for the appeal, which will go towards completing and running the new day hospice in King Street, Honiton.

The state-of-the-art facility will serve the communities of East Devon.

Anyone interested in booking a place or finding out more can call Celia Wilkinson at Hospiscare on 01392 688020.
