Historic changes for St John Ambulance in Honiton

But duties will carrry on.

St John Ambulance in Honiton has undergone historic changes - its management committee has been disbanded after 77 years in the town.

The committee disbanded last week due to changes in the way the organisation is structured.

Derrick Layzell, who has served as chairman of Honiton and Ottery St Mary St John Ambulance for nine years and secretary of the branch, said: “The operational side of St John Ambulance will carry on.”

He told the Midweek Herald that a substantial amount of money will be moved to St John Ambulance’s regional headquarters to be used as general funds, rather than used locally.

The regional headquarters will take over responsibility for how the money is spent, which was previously overseen by the management committee for Honiton and Ottery St John Ambulance.

Mr Lazell added: “We will have no control over the way the money is spent.

“We will still do our public duties and be prominent in the town.”

Honiton St John Ambulance was formed in 1945 and later amalgamated with the Ottery St Mary branch.
