Results of Parish History Society’s reearch to go on show at the parish church
To commemorate the Armistice of 1918, Colyton Parish History Society has researched how the war, both at home and overseas, impacted on the people of the Parish.
Now their findings will be featured in an exhibition - Colyton’s war 1914-1918 – at the parish church, beginning next week.
A spokeswoman said: “We have drawn on the generosity of our present community who have lent us their memories, memorabilia and family treasures.
“The event will involve an extensive display of research material and project work, including exhibits from Colyton Primary School, Colyton Grammar School and other local contributors. The exhibition will be complemented by an audio/visual display, together with a daily programme of speakers.
“Members have researched far and wide with the important focus that we wanted to know about Colyton’s War. So, although the exhibition includes national and international events, what we have to offer is: ‘What happened in Colyton’.
The exhibition is free and runs from Wednesday October 31 when it is officially opened at 11.30am, until Saturday November 3 from 10am to 4pm.
* There are six themes in the exhibition: Signing Up and Serving, Supporting the British Red Cross, The Home Front, Getting on With Life, Working the Land, and Dealing with Change Post War…. The world would not be the same, Colyton would not be the same.
