The future is looking bright for Christmas lights in Honiton - but the community’s help is needed.

Go Festive – the Christmas lights committee - has teamed up with the Midweek Herald to launch the Honiton Christmas Lights Appeal.

The committee includes members David Foster, Mark Rich, Sylvia, and Herald reporter Katy Griffin.

It is hoping to raise £10,000 to go towards a festive display in the town.

Go Festive chairman David Foster said: “We would like to bring some festive spirit to Honiton. We are going to need the efforts of the local community to get these lights. We need your help.”

Currently, there is £2,000 in the fundraising pot - £1,000 was donated by Lidl and a further £1,000 was made available from Honiton Town Council.

David added: “After last year’s unfortunate lack of Christmas lights a team formed from the local community and we are working to raise money and do our best to deliver lights for this December.”

The committee has been busy planning fundraising events and is challenging the local community to get involved.

David said: “We want to thank everyone who has helped so far, including Lidl and the town council and the other committee members.

“We hope the festive cheer can spread throughout are community.”

Anyone interested in joining the committee, helping with fundraising, or donating raffle prizes is urged to call David Foster on 01404 45106 or email davidofhoniton@yahoo.co.uk

A Christmas lights appeal quiz is being held on Saturday, August 23, at Honiton Conservative Club, 7.30pm for 8pm. There will be prizes for the best dressed Christmas team.

Further events are in the pipeline. Read the Midweek Herald or visit Honiton Town Devon Facebook page for updates.
