Honiton’s community turned out in force to enjoy this year’s Charter Day - despite a grey and drizzly start.

The sun broke through a grey sky before noon to lighten up the day, which saw activities aplenty at St Paul’s Church and Allhallows Playing Fields delight hundreds of residents and visitors to the town.

Councillor Henry Brown, Honiton mayor, said: “Charter Day has been an absolute success!

“It was a great opportunity to celebrate Honiton’s vast and diverse history, dating back to a particular Royal Charter being granted in 1257.

“I particularly enjoyed seeing the celebration of the Suffragettes 100 years from women winning their right to vote. I would like to thank all the stall holders and organisation for making the event so fantastic.

“I would also like to extend my thanks for Cllr Terry Darrant and the rest of the committee for putting on such a good event, and the Millenium Green and Honiton Band for the evening’s entertainment.”
