Members hope to get as many people as possible to sign up to the dignity code and will be outside St Paul’s Church tomorrow (Saturday).

Members of Honiton Senior Voice will be promoting the importance of better care for older people and spreading the word about the dignity code.

The group will have a stall outside St Paul’s Church and have planned to hold an exhibition at Honiton Library, to coincide with Dignity Action Day on Saturday, February 1. Members also hope to get as many members of the public to sign up to the dignity code as possible.

Honiton Senior Voice chairman Vic Bowsher said: “We are taking our message to locals - that older people in all forms of are must be treated with dignity. In the 21st century it is time that all care staff should be properly trained and paid accordingly and for care services to be more rigorously monitored, inspected and regulated.”

At a meeting on Friday, at Honiton Methodist Chapel, Senior Voice groups from East Devon will hear reports on the latest signatories to sign up to the National Pensioners Convention Dignity Code.

These include MPs Neil Parish and Dr Sarah Woolaston, and Mid and East Devon Councils.

East Devon district councillor Jill Elson, the communities portfolio holder, recently signed up to the Dignity Code at a Honiton Senior Voice meeting.

Mr Bowsher added: “We shall also be taking our message for better care of older people to Councils, GPs, hospitals and care workers throughout Devon. We are confident that the Dignity Code can make a real difference.”
