Portfolio assessed by National Association of Local Councils.

Honiton Town Council says it has demonstrated that it continues to be “representative and capable of taking an enhanced role” - by renewing its Quality Council status.

The council’s portfolio was successfully assessed by a panel from the National Association of Local Councils.

Councillor Vernon Whitlock, the mayor, said: “The award of Quality Council status is a recognition that Honiton Town Council is running an effective organisation and serving the community well.

“We are pleased to receive the award.”

A council statement added: “This assurance of quality helps to smooth the way for the formation of partnerships with principal authorities, enabling projects and initiatives which reflect the needs and preferences of the community.”

Quality councils are expected to:

Be representative of and actively involve all parts of their community.

Be effectively and properly managed, with members and officers upholding a high standard of conduct.

Work closely with voluntary and community sector groups, and articulate the community’s needs and wishes through effective communications.

Work in partnership with other local authorities and agencies and, depending on their size, be able to deliver local services which give the best deal for the local community.
