A HONITON couple have made history by becoming the first people to get married in one of the town’s forgotten landmarks.

Andy Thomas and Emma Coles were the first couple to hold their wedding ceremony in the newly restored Lady Margaret’s Medieval Hall in Beggars Lane.

The hall has been re-opened for civil wedding ceremonies by the sites owner Ellen Ilsley, who recently refurbished the former St Margaret’s chapel, which dates back to 1179.

Emma said: “It’s been fabulous to be the first couple to get married here.

“The ground is beautiful and it has everything you need.”

Her husband Andy added: “The wedding has been really good and I’ve enjoyed every moment.”

The hall’s owner Ellen Ilsley said: “I think my first wedding has gone really well.

“It was nice to have a wonderful and devoted couple like Emma and Andy to be my first wedding, which made the day for me.

“I am looking forward to doing more.”
