FSC Exeter Honiton Muay Thai set for world record attempt at the inaugural Honiton Sausage and Cider Festival.

Muay Thai martial artists are aiming to kick their way into the record books at next month’s inaugural Honiton Sausage and Cider Festival.

Members of FSC Exeter Honiton Muay Thai will be attempting to set the Guinness World Record for the most Muay Thai clinch knee kicks in an hour during the event on Saturday, May 3.

The record attempt, involving club members of all ages, will take place between 11am and noon on the main festival field.

Coach and club owner Sonny Perez will also be looking to set his own record for the most clinch knee kicks completed in an hour by one person.

“We are aiming to do as many as we can in an hour,” says Gill Day, who was speaking on behalf of the club. “We are really excited and we are all spurred up for it.”

Club members are already busy preparing for their record attempt – practising the move at the beginning of each class.

“It will be good for the town and will put Honiton on the map,” added Gill. “It will also be good for the club itself. It should be quite an event.”

The Honiton Sausage and Cider Festival is being held to raise money for Honiton-based charity Devon Freewheelers, which provides a voluntary out-of-hours service for the emergency transportation of blood and other medical supplies.

There will be music from The Wurzels, Sweet Black Angels, Diamondogz, Ollie Bowern, Fools and Horses, Lydia Capon and 4 King Dwarphz.

Tickets are selling fast for the event and are only available online at the time of writing. However, from Friday (April 18) they will be available from Honiton Information Centre, Honiton Toy Shop, The Paper Shop, New Street, and Wing Hong Chinese.

There will also be a stall selling tickets at the Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday markets in Honiton.

Organisers are now advising the public that tickets will not be available on the gate on the day of the festival.

Marshals and volunteers are still needed to lend a hand at the festival. Anyone who volunteers will get free entry to the festival. Anyone interested in sponsoring the event is also urged to come forward as well.

To get involved as a sponsor or volunteer call 0300 800 0104 between the hours of 10am and 2pm
