Government ‘out of touch’ with hardships faced by ordinary families.

Honiton residents joined thousands of others to protest in central London at the weekend.

They were in the capital to take part in a march organised by the TUC to protest against the Government’s austerity measures.

Members of the Honiton branch of the Labour Party and Honiton Senior Voice were marching for an alternative to cuts to public services and say the Government is out of touch with the needs of hard-pressed local residents.

Honiton Labour Party spokesman Vernon Whitlock said: “It was an opportunity to join 150,000 people from all over the country to voice our protest over the culture of two nations across the government.

“Tax cuts for millionaires are happening at the same time as ordinary families in Honiton are suffering with calls on the food bank increasing.

“Bonuses for bankers carry on whilst Honiton young people are facing a future of reducing job opportunities.

“Those marching included nurses and others protesting against the privatisation of the NHS and those with disabilities facing poverty through changes in the benefit system.

“The overwhelming feeling amongst those marching was that the Government was out of touch with the concerns of ordinary people. It was good to be there adding our voices to the protest.”
