The spirit of World War Two was rekindled at the D-Day + 70 Country Show near Honiton.

Visitors flocked to the two-day event, which was organised by the South West Airfields Heritage Trust, last Saturday and Sunday, which was held at Cherry Hayes Farm, Smeatharpe.

There was plenty on offer for all ages, including a children’s fun fair, displays of classic cars and military vehicles, re-enactors from all over the country, trade and craft stalls, as well as a tribute to farming during World War Two with displays of tractors and machinery from that era.

Music was provided by Sandy Sparkle, who sang some wartime favourites, and Blitz and Peaces.

Tim Matthews who appeared in the hit television show Band of Brothers was also in attendance.

Event manager Brian Lane-Smith said: “The event was very successful and we had very good weather. We had a lot of people coming back for the second day.”

He thanked all the event’s sponsors for their support, which ensured the show was a great success.
