The community of Honiton turned out to pay its respects to the soldiers that lost their lives during World War One.

A civic ceremony was held by Honiton Town Council last Sunday at St Paul’s Church to mark the 100th anniversary of the Great War.

A wreath was laid on the town’s war memorial.

The mayor of Honiton, Cllr Peter Halse, told the Midweek Herald that the event went very well.

He added: “This was a civic ceremony to remember those that died. There were 66 of them in Honiton. We wanted to honour them.

“It was quite a moving occasion.”

It is believed more than 100 people attended the service at St Paul’s Church.

Members of the local branches of the Royal British Legion, air cadets and army cadets were in attendance alongside civic leaders from the local authorities.
