Teams turned out in force to support a netball festival in aid of Hospiscare’s East Devon Day Hospice Appeal.

The mixed charity tournament, which took place on Sunday, August 24, was held at Honiton Sports Centre – 12 teams from the Honiton, Sidmouth and Exeter areas competed.

Currently, the total raised for the new day hospice, which is being built in Honiton, stands at £335.

Organiser Julie Churchill said: “I am quite overwhelmed how many people were there and supported the event.

“The aim was to raise money for the day hospice and for everyone to enjoy playing netball. The amount raised was outstanding - I did not expect that at all.”

Julie thanked Honiton Sports Centre for allowing the use of their courts during the event and Honiton Rugby Club for the use of its club house.

She has also said a big thank you to all the businesses that donated raffle prizes, which included Toast, Silver Cloud Jewllery, Pecorama, Essential Therapies, Swift Cuts, Specsavers, Waterbabies, Steve Joyce Photography and Gilbert Stephens Solicitors, Ottery, and to everyone who supported the event.

Julie hopes the netball festival will become an annual event.
