Honiton Rugby Club is to get a lions share of some £2,600 after triathletes turned out in force for a fundraising challenge.

A total of 66 took part in the sponsored triathlon and junior event, which was held on Sunday, July 27.

Participants in the triathlon had to complete a 400 or 800m swim at Honiton swimming pool, followed by a 21km bike ride and a 5km run to finish.

It was a proud day for David Stopper Todd who completed the triathlon in 2hr 10mins 30secs at the age of 68.

The event’s organiser, David Wellington, said: “It ran smoothly and there was a great atmosphere.

“Every little bit helps towards the club.”

Honiton charity The Baton will receive £200. The money raised for the rugby club will go towards the building of an extension.

David has thanked Craig Bernhardt of B! Health and Fitness for sponsoring the event and everyone who took part and supported the triathlon.

Preparations are already under way for next year’s event, which is set to take place on Sunday, July 26. Anyone interested in taking part is urged to email David on wellyboot11@aol.com for more information.
