Pedestrian Iris Piper, 83, died after being in collision with a car on the A35

Police are appealing for witnesses after an 83-year-old Kilmington woman died following a road traffic accident on Thursday night (August 22).

Officers say that village resident Iris Piper appears to have been crossing the A35 as she was walking towards the Old Inn when she was in collision with a VW Polo, travelling towards Honiton, at 9.09pm.

She was taken by ambulance to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital where she died soon after.

The driver of the car, a local woman, was uninjured.

The road was closed for six-and-a-half hours whilst the Serious Collision Investigation Unit completed their scene examination.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident and in particular to anyone who may have seen either the VW Polo or the pedestrian prior to the collision. They are asked to call police on 101 quoting police reference 789 210814.
