Police appeal for witnesses after thieves siphon around £1,000 of fuel from a garden storage tank

Heating oil worth around £1,000 has been stolen from a property in Charmouth Road, at Axminster.

Police say thieves siphoned the fuel from a tank in the garden of a house between the Raymond’s Hill post office and the Red Lane junction.

It happened some time between 1pm yesterday (Wednesday) and 9am today, when the crime was discovered.

Police Community Support Officer Andy Trott said they thought a vehicle was parked up on the verge outside the property while the oil was being taken. There was no evidence that the villains actually took their vehicle up the driveway. It is not known what containers were used to carry the fuel away.

Officers want to hear form anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area. They should call them on 101, quoting refence KA12 590.

Meanwhile PCSO Trott urged householder to take extra care to protect their supplies of winter fuel oil.

Currently multi-purpose alarm padlocks are available from the police at £7 each, again by calling 101.
