Lyme Regis RNLI lifeboat was launched yesterday morning (Sunday) after reports of a boat owner in difficulties in the town’s harbour.

The alarm was raised by coastguards when it was feared the man had not surfaced after inspecting the propeller of his motor cruiser.

When the lifeboat arrived the man was safe and well aboard his vessel.

Lifeboat helmsman Dave Street said: “It was a false alarm with good intent, but we would much rather be called in such circumstances - better to be safe than sorry if there is any doubt.”

The alert was the 42nd ‘shout’ for the lifeboat so far this year.
