Lyme RNLI crew members generously splash out on a feast of rotten food for their young colleague
Lifeboatman Peter Cable has good reason to remember his 18th birthday.
Unfortunately for him, his big day coincided with a regular training session with fellow members of the Lyme Regis RNLI crew.
And they were not letting the occasion pass without a ‘banquet’ for their young colleague.
As a special birthday treat they securely tied him to the harbour railings and generously coated him with vegetable soup, followed by spaghetti in tomato sauce, a tub of flour and, finally, half a dozen rather old eggs.
And while his birthday treat was being served, a hose was tucked into his so-called dry suit and the cold water tap was turned on.
The victim’s father, John, also a lifeboat crew member, said: “Welcome to the lifeboat crew, and happy birthday,”
“All good fun,” said Peter.
