Eight Axminster charities receive a share of group’s Christmas collections

Axminster and District Lions Club handed out donations to eight local organisations at a ceremony in The Lamb Inn last week.

The money was raised through the organisation’s Santa sleigh collections in December.

Chequers ranging from 50-£250 were presented to HALFF, Flamingo Pool, Axminster Alternative Job Club, ARC Bereavement Counselling Service, Read Easy, Musbury Moles and Axminster Arts Café.

A further £500 is to be donated to the Hospice Day Centre currently being built in Honiton, taking the Lions’ grand giveaway total to £1,750.

A spokesman said: “All this was only possible through the huge generosity of the local community and the help freely given by our volunteer collectors. A very big thank you to all who gave their money and time to help others within their community.”
