Seaton Guides presented with £350 to help them replace their leaky tents

Seaton Guides will be sleeping in the dry at camp this year thanks to a £320 donation from the local lions Club.

The Troop decided to write to the charity organisation asking for financial help to replace their leaking tents – which meant a soggy time at their last two camps.

The generous donation, coupled with their own fundraising efforts during the past year, means the Guides now have enough money to buy one big tent and two smaller ones for patrol groups.

The Guides are very grateful to Seaton Lions and are now looking forward to camp more than ever.

And there was more to celebrate on a busy evening as five of the Guides were also presented with their Baden Powell Award, the highest honour they can achieve. Winning it involves a number of challenges designed to increase awareness of healthy lifestyles, increase self confidence, gain new experiences, and promote active citizenship.

Although it involved over 12 months of hard work to achieve this award, all of the girls said they really enjoyed the experiences and opportunities they gained, especially on the residential weekend, where they met up with Guides from around Devon.

Seaton Guides is open to all girls aged 10-15 in the Axe Valley area and new members, both girls and adults are always welcome. We meet weekly on a Tuesday evening and enjoy a range of activities along with regular residential and camping experiences. To find out about joining them email seatonguides@hotmail.co.uk
