The event saw a record number of youngsters participating in this year’s event.

A record number of pixies descended on Ottery at the weekend to regale the tale of Pixie Day.

Some 95 youngsters dressed up to participate in the pixies revenge racing up to the church to capture the bell ringers.

The ringers were paraded through the streets before breaking free and thwarting the pixies’ plot.

As part of the celebrations the children sang a special song to Richard Coley, who marked 40 years of involvement with the event.

The 80-year-old, who is also chairman of the Pixie Day committee, said the day had a ‘lovely atmosphere’.

He said: “It went well, it was a lovely atmosphere. It was almost a bit too hot but it was still pretty busy.

“We had a record number of pixies and some of those pixies will be grandchildren of previous pixies.

The event began in the Land of Canaan with a packed programme for all the family, including a pet show, stalls, tae kwon-do display, bar and barbecue.
