Lyme Regis lifeboat

Skipper calls for help after being overwhelmed in rough seas.

Lyme Regis lifeboat went to the aid of a man and his dog yesterday Thursday (July 3) when their sailing dinghy got into difficulties off West Bay.

The rescue craft was launched at 4pm at the request of Portland coastguards when the dinghy was reported to have been overwhelmed by rough seas four miles east of West Bay and one mile offshore.

The man and his dog – both of whom were wearing lifejackets – were taken aboard the lifeboat and then to the safety of West Bay harbour.

Two members of the lifeboat crew boarded the dinghy which was later towed into West Bay.

This was the 16th emergency call so far this year for the Lyme Regis volunteer crew.
