A windsurfer who got into difficulties in a sudden squall off Lyme Regis today (Sunday, May 11) had to be rescued.

A member of the public spotted Alex Lyddon struggling against the strong winds and high waves just outside the harbour, and alerted the RNLI lifeboat.

Alex, 23, from Thames Ditton, Surrey, said: “I had been windsurfing for about 20 minutes when i was overwhelmed by a sudden squall. I appreciate the efforts of the lifeboat crew, and was very pleased to see them.”
