M5 now open following chemical spill

11:49 06 January 2016

Archant

A chemical tanker spilt approximately 1,000 litres of kerosene across three lanes of the northbound carriageway and the hard shoulder after it overturned.

The M5 is now open in both directions between junctions 23 and 24 after a tanker overturned yesterday - resulting in a substantial chemical spillage on the carriageway.

The southbound carriageway reopened at around 6pm yesterday once the recovery of the tanker was completed.

The northbound carriageway was completely re-closed later in the evening to allow resurfacing to take place, and reo-penrf in time for the morning rush hour today.

The chemical tanker spilt approximately 1,000 litres of kerosene across three lanes of the northbound carriageway and the hard should after it overturned.

There was also 5,500 litres of kerosene left on the vehicle which was decanted and safely recovered.
