Friends and relatives attend Seaton woman’s 100th birthday party

A card from the Queen was amongst the highlights when Marjorie Bridge celebrated her 100th birthday at Seaton on Thursday (March 14).

Friends and relatives joined her at Check House residential home for a party to mark her big day.

Marjorie was born in South West London and was one of eight children, six boys and two girls.

After her schooling she went to work at the Co-op, in Tooting, in the ladies’ fashion department.

During the war she did her bit as a clippie on the London buses, based at Merton. Her husband, Ernest Woodrow, whom she married in 1939, joined the glider pilot regiment and sadly was killed in action at Arnhem, Holland, in 1944. He now lies at peace in the Oosterbeek war cemetery.

Marjorie married her second husband, Cyril Bridge, in 1954 and after he died she came to live in Colyford, with her third partner, the late Herbert Dawes, in 1971.
