KILROY-SILK BID: The wife of former TV celebrity, Labour MP and UKIP leadership hopeful Robert Kilroy-Silk has seen her bid to transform Courtlands House into a home backed by town councillors.

Jan Kilroy-Silk applied for the function room and three flats at the Courtlands Lane house to be reverted back to a ‘single dwelling’.

Councillor Tim Dumper said: “I am very interested that there are no comments bearing in mind the applicant.

“Broadly speaking I would say yes to this application.”

District planners will now make the final decision.

CHECK YOUR LICENCE: Exmouth’s hotels and guest houses are being reminded to buy a TV licence ahead of their first busiest weekend of the year – Valentine’s Day.

TV Licensing says budget hotels, boutique B and Bs, luxury spa resorts or serviced apartments must all be covered by a valid TV licence if guests or staff are watching TV as it is broadcast. For smaller hotels and guesthouses, the cost of a TV licence is £145.50 a year, the same amount as a private house. Hotels with more than 15 rooms are covered by one licence for the first 15 units, but will need an additional licence for every five thereafter. TORY AGM: The annual meeting of the Budleigh Salterton Branch of the Conservative Party is being held at the Peter Hall on Saturday, February 23, at 11am.

Members are invited to vote for committee appointments and there will be the chance to listen to the annual reports from county and district councillors.

Councillor John Hart, leader of Devon County Council, will be guest speaker.

Refreshments will be served.
