Patients are being advised that there could be slight disruptions as Axminster Medical Practice changes its clinical computer systems.
The new system, the practice says, will benefit patients in the long term as its current system, which has been in place since 1990, is no longer fit for purpose.
Patients are being reassured that if they are unwell they can still be seen in the normal way.
Dr Phil Taylor said: “The new system will benefit patients in the long term, with improved recall processes, and faster receipt of their results and other correspondence from the hospital.
“However, there will be a degree of disruption and computer downtime during the implementation, and we would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.
“We would like to reassure all patients that, if they are unwell, they can still be seen in the normal way.”
From September 19 to 27 the surgery will only be seeing patients who have emergency or acute problems, which will only be bookable on the day by phoning the surgery in the normal way.
During this time patients are being asked not to try and book appointments for non-urgent problems, for example medication reviews.
From September 30 onward normal booking will resume but the surgery is asking patients to bear in mind that there will be a backlog to clear.
The surgery will also be employing extra GPs to help with this.
Dr Taylor added: “We are grateful to our patients for their understanding and patience throughout this transition.”
