Long serving councillor elected the new mayor of Honiton.

Long serving town councillor Peter Halse has been elected as the new mayor of Honiton.

A vote was held at Honiton Town Council’s meeting on Monday night.

He said: “Thank you very much for the honour you place on me. From now on we will all work together.

“I am honoured to be your mayor, which is a thing my family have never done in Honiton. I trust we should be able to work together for the good of the town.”

He replaces two-time mayor Councillor David Foster.

Councillor John Zarczynski was voted in as deputy mayor taking on the role from Mr Halse.

An official mayor making ceremony will be held next Monday.
