New meals system introduced at Honiton Hospital

The introduction of a new catering system at Honiton Community Hospital was unveiled during a tasting session on Friday.

Cornwall Food, a non-profit making arm of the NHS, is working in partnership with the Northern Devon NHS Healthcare Trust to supply the meals which are already being served at other community hospitals in East Devon.

The food, prepared in Redruth, is being delivered to the hospital three times a week and is heated in catering trollies on wards.

All 60 dishes on the main menu are made with locally-sourced ingredients.

The menu includes 30 vegetarian choices, as well as meals for other, specific dietary requirements.

Patients’ representative and former town councillor Alf Boom and Councillor Vernon Whitlock, chairman of the Honiton Health and Care Locality Team, were among those to taste the new meals.

They told the Herald that they found the meals “very tasty, with a wide variety of choice”.
