‘Opening up about dementia’ in Honiton

15:15 20 May 2014

Events planned for Dementia Awareness Week.

East Devon residents are being encouraged to ‘open up about dementia’.

To coincide with Dementia Awareness Week, which runs from May 18 to 24, a number of events are being held in Honiton to raise awareness of the disease.

Honiton Memory Cafe is hosting a coffee morning tomorrow (Wednesday), at Honiton Methodist Chapel, from 10am until 12.30pm.

The Alzheimer’s Society will then hold a beach themed event on Thursday (May 22), giving members of the public the chance to find out more about dementia.

It is being held on the forecourt of St Paul’s Church from 10am to 4pm.

A free talk will be taking place on Friday (May 23), from 10am, at the East Devon Business Centre, which is located on the Heathpark Industrial Estate.

The event is being run in partnership with Cosmic Ethical IT and the Alzheimer’s Society.

The talk will be given by dementia champion Marion Pollinger.

Topics covered will include types of dementia, symptoms and tips for successful communication with people who suffer with the disease.
