A major festival in Honiton is not returning this year, its organiser has confirmed.

The Honiton Sausage and Cider Festival, put on by bloodbikes charity Devon Freewheelers, looks to be off for 2018.

Daniel Lavery, founder of the Freewheelers, revealed the news on Facebook, though no official statement has yet been released concerning the festival’s cancellation.

Posting on a Facebook thread questioning if the event would be returning for 2018, Mr Lavery said: “No there’s no festival this year.”

Last year’s festival, put on at Honiton Agricultural Showgrounds, pulled in thousands of visitors.

The two-day event also featured a performance from street dance troupe Diversity, best known for winning the third series of Britain’s Got Talent in 2009.

However, the popular festival has been marred by bad weather in the past, particularly in 2015 when it was battered by unrelenting rain and wind.

The weather was so damaging, it forced the postponement of 2016’s festival - though that did not stop thousands of people braving the elements to party.

The Herald has approached festival organisers for comment.
