It is not just shops squirrels are visiting in Honiton.

The rodents have taken a fancy to the comfort of residents’ homes, too.

One shocked resident had a surprise encounter with a curious squirrel - in her kitchen.

Stephanie Goodwin, who lives in Mill Street, was preparing dinner when she describes something “shooting” through the door into her house.

“I thought it was a rat,” she says.

However, the mysterious visitor turned out to be a grey squirrel, which quickly found its way into the living room.

“It headed towards the window and went smack into it, knocking all the ornaments off. It fell down the back of the sofa and behind the table,” added Mrs Goodwin.

“They are cheeky little chappies and they can run so fast.”

To get rid of her unwanted visitor, she used a fluffy duster to “tickle” him in the direction of the door.

A family of nine or more squirrels have been spotted by Hale Lane resident Alan Cameron who told the Midweek Herald that he had seen a number of them in a tree near his home.

A squirrel last month jumped on a shopper’s head after it darted into a shop in New Street.
