The children held their own mini version of the town’s popular Hot Pennies ceremony as they looked to secure their ‘My World Challenge’ badge.

To gain the badge, they have to do activities that reflects England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales or the part of the UK where we live.

Helen Turner, scout leader for Honiton, said: “We chose hot pennies as it is unique to Honiton and it is such a good fun evening to do with the Beavers.

“It was brilliant that the Honiton mayor Henry Brown and town crier Dave Retter were able to be there to help.”

The youngsters scrambled to pick up pennies thrown from the roof of The Honiton Toy Shop by Mr Brown, owner Pam Beckett and her mother, Thelma.

Pockets full, they then made their way back to the Scout Hall in Dowell Street.
