Lyme Lifeboat Guild secretary says having a retired GP with her during her fund raising dip will be ‘reassuring’

Christmas Day swimmer Carys Lowe is leaving nothing to chance – she’s taking a doctor along.

Her ‘insurance policy’ for the annual fund raising dip at Charmouth this year will be retired Lyme Regis GP Dr David Clayton.

Carys, a tourist information assistant and secretary of the Lyme Regis and Charmouth RNLI Guild, said: ”I do like swimming, but I am a bit of a plodder so having a doctor with me is very reassuring.”

Carys and Dr Clayton are raising money for the lifeboat charity by taking part in the fancy dress swim.

But they are keeping their costumes a closely guarded secret.

Said Carys: “My costume is still in production, but I can tell you it involves sequins and wings.”

And Dr Clayton, a keen gig club member and sea angler, offered Carys a soothing consultation: ”My life-saving skills are pretty good, but I am sure they won’t be needed.”

Spectators and swimmers are advised to arrive by 10.30am on Christmas Day morning. Once again the event is being organised by the Charmouth members of the RNLI Guild and the Royal Oak pub.
