Villains target village cars and outbuildings
A shock increase in crime has been recorded at Uplyme.
The village, which often goes weeks without police investigating a single incident, suffered a spate of burglaries during the past month.
Police Community Support Officer Amanda Jones told the parish council that four crimes were committed in a single night – Thursday, June 7.
She said outbuildings and garages had been a key target for the villains who got away with garden equipment.
Catalytic converters were stolen from vehicles in Pound Lane and Lyme Road.
The combination padlock and chain at the football field had also been stolen.
PCSO Jones added: “Please ensure all property is postcode marked and all serial numbers of items are kept separately. We still have a limited number of alarmed padlocks at the station at a cost of £7 each.
“I encourage residents to report any sightings of suspicious persons or vehicles, taking down the registration plate number, by telephoning police on 101.”
