Teacher finances young entrepreneurs at Hawkchurch Primary School

Children at Hawkchurch Primary School have become budding entrepreneurs with a summer challenge set by their class teacher.

In small groups, or as individuals, the pupils have been allowed to borrow their business start up money - a maximum of £10 - from the “Bank of Miss English”.

The excitement and activity has been building as handmade bracelets, home made crafts and cakes have gone into production, as well as rehearsing for a music concert.

And as with any business, marketing has played a major role, seeing parts of the school flooded with posters and ticket sellers!

So far parents and children have been invited to part with their money at a cake stall and a raffle.

Today (Wednesday July 2 ), from 2pm, they are invited to have their car washed or buy a bacon sandwich while tomorrow some enterprising youngsters are offering a pet washing service.

To really encourage the entrepreneurs the children are being allowed to keep the profit they make – after paying back their stake to banker Harriet English.
